Every year, about 2.5 lakh new patients of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) get added in India, resulting in additional demand for 3.5 crore dialysis every year. It is sad that for many in the middle- and low-income categories, the additional expenditure burden of Rs.3-4 lakhs every year is too much to bear and hence gets untreated.
